Status of conservation of FGR for tree species
From this page it is possible to access the overviews on the status of genetic conservation of populations of native forest tree species (covering dynamic in situ and ex situ measures) for all tree species in the EUFGIS information system.
This data provides a comprehensive overview of the conservation status and monitors progress and is also utilized to report on Indicator 4.6. This indicator is part of the criteria and indicators set for sustainable forest management, as defined by the Forest Europe process. It is instrumental in compiling the report on the current status of Europe's forests.
The change in the dynamic conservation effort in the period may reflect an increase of the information entered in the information system as much as the establishment of new GCU(s).
In order to easily monitor the progresses, the sub-indicators are expressed as ratios whenever possible; values range between 0 and 1, where 0 means no conservation activities in the area and 1 means fully achieved conservation activity in the area.
To learn more about this indicator, you can read the report Dynamic conservation and utilization of forest tree genetic resources: indicators for in situ and ex situ genetic conservation or have a look at a presentation explaining the use of the indicator.
